Day 1 London Heathrow to Beijing
Depart London Heathrow to Beijing with British Airways. Alternatively, we can arrange departures from your local airport.
Day 2 Arrive Beijing (D)
Upon arrival, you will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel for a 3 night stay. In the afternoon you will have time to relax or take a walk in the surrounding area. Your guide will be pleased to advise on what you can do at your leisure. In the early evening your guide will escort you for dinner where you will meet your fellow group members.
Day 3 Beijing city tour (BLD)
This morning you will visit the Temple of Heaven, where the Ming and Qing emperors worshipped and prayed for good harvest for the year. Observe the tradition of practicing Tai Chi in the courtyard. This will be followed by a stroll through Tiananmen Square and a visit to the Forbidden City, a grand imperial palace.
Day 4 The Great Wall (BLD)
Visit the Great Wall at Mutianyu, a post along the wall which offers stunning views. Built in the mid-6th century, its rich history can be observed in its unique construction. In the evening there will be a sumptuous Peking Duck Dinner, a traditional delicacy in Beijing.
Day 5 Beijing city tour and to Xian (BLD)
This morning visit the Summer Palace, full of lakes, gardens and palaces with scenic views and walks. Later, enjoy a relaxing boat ride on the beautiful Kunming Lake. Followed by a stop at the Birds Nest Stadium and Water Cube. The final stop of the day will be at the Hutongs, followed by your flight to Xian.
Day 6 Terracotta Warriors (BLD)
Today your guide will take you to visit the Terracotta Warriors, a stunning collection of ten thousand life size statues of the Chinese army made over two thousand years ago, yet preserved almost perfectly. This will be followed by a visit to the ancient city wall in Xian in the afternoon, which can be enjoyed through a peaceful stroll or a bike ride. It is the most complete city wall that has survived in China, it is one of the largest military defensive systems in the world. This evening you will try a dumpling dinner while enjoying the Tang Dynasty Show, a colourful performance of traditional music and dance.
Day 7 Xian city tour and to Guilin (BLD)
Today, you will visit to the Shaanxi museum which houses over a quarter of a million artefacts on display, including treasures from many periods of China’s history. The next stop, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, will explore China’s unique architecture style. Visit the Muslim Quarter to see local life in the community. Finally, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Guilin.
Day 8 Li River cruise and Cormorant Fishing Show (BLD)
Transfer to Zhujiang quay for a leisurely four hours boat cruise on the breathtaking Li River. Enjoy the rural scenes of farmers working in their rice fields with water buffalo, and the towering karst mountain peaks. Disembark in Yangshou. In the evening, you will watch the fascinating cormorant fishing show.
Day 9 Yangshuo and Yulong River (BD)
Today is free at leisure. Explore this beautiful area independently, or perhaps join an optional cookery class this morning. In the afternoon, there is an optional walk or cycle ride to explore the countryside. This evening optional spectacular ‘Impressions of Liu Sanjie’ show, staged on the river.
Day 10 Reed Flute Caves and to Chengdu (BLD)
Today visit the Reed Flute Caves, a colourful collection of illuminated stalactites and stalagmites. Later visit Fubo Hill and Elephant Trunk Hill, offering wonderful panoramic views. In the afternoon you will be transferred to the airport for a flight to Chengdu.
Day 11 Leshan Giant Buddha (BLD)
A full day excursion to the magnificent Leshan Giant Buddha (71 metre). Built during the Tang Dynasty, the Buddha is carved out of a cliff face that lies at the confluence of the Minjiang, Dadu and Qingyi rivers. You will also visit the ancient town of Huanglongxi.
Day 12 Giant Pandas and to Lijiang (BLD)
This morning you will visit the Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Centre, where naturalistic habitats have been created for the best possible environments for rearing and breeding pandas. Afterwards transfer to the airport for a flight to Lijiang.
Day13 Tiger Leaping Gorge (BLD)
Visit picturesque Black Dragon Pool, a walk from Lijiang Old Town of. Drive to the dramatic and stunning scenery of Tiger Leaping Gorge – one of the deepest gorges in the world.
Day 14 Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (BL)
Today visit Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, taking a cable car to half way up. Visit Baisha Naxi minority village and learn about its ancient wall paintings. The afternoon is at your leisure to explore Lijiang Old Town.
Day 15 Drive to Dali (BL)
Today, you will drive to the ancient town, Dali. On the way stop at the ancient town Xizhou for a great opportunity to see local village life.
Day 16 Three Pagodas (BLD)
Visit Erhai Lake to see its crystal clear waters and the spectacular Cangshan Mountains. Afterwards, enjoy a folk dance performance by the ethnic Bai and tea ceremony, followed by a visit to Dali’s iconic The Three Pagodas.
Day 17 To Kunming (BD)
Explore the old town of Dali before transfering you to the airport for a flight to Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan province.
Day 18 To Shanghai (BLD)
Today visit Kunming and the incredible Stone Forest – through 270 million years erosion Mother Nature has created towering stone sculptures that rise from the ground. Later board a flight to the vibrant city of Shanghai.
Day 19 Suzhou day trip (BLD)
Today you will visit the city of Suzhou, known as the ‘Venice of the East’. Its attractive gardens are renowned for their remarkable history and skilled horticulturalists. After, enjoy a cruise on the Grand Canal, a visit to a silk mill and The Panmen Gate before returning to Shanghai.
Day 20 Shanghai city tour (BLD)
First stop, the Yu Yuan Gardens,home to beautiful pavilions, streams, courtyards and flowers, followed by the Jade Buddha Temple. Visit the Shanghai museum and the famous Bund. Later, enjoy a breathtaking bird’s eye view of the whole city at the top of the Shanghai world financial centre.
Day 21 Zhujiajiao (BL)
Today will start with a visit to Zhujiajiao, an ancient water town with a history of over 1,700 years. Continue to the Ming and Qing Dynasty bridges, two ancient and historic buildings, and the Ma Family Garden before heading back to Shanghai for an afternoon at leisure.
Day 22 Fly back to London (B)
Transfer to the airport for your flight back to London Heathrow.
