2018 – 19

Day 1  UK to Beijing
You will take a scheduled flight from the UK to Beijing.

Day 2 Arrive Beijing (D)
Upon arrival, you will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel for a 3 night stay. You will have a chance to relax before your guide will escort you for dinner where you will meet and greet your fellow group members.

Day 3  Beijing City tour (BLD)
In the morning you will visit the Temple of Heaven – this will be followed by a stroll through Tiananmen Square, the biggest square in the world. Continue to the Forbidden City which served as the grand imperial palace for centuries. Your final stop of the day will be at the Hutongs. Here, you can have a personal insight into the everyday life of traditional Beijing citizens.

Day 4 Great Wall  (BLD)
Today visit the Great Wall at Mutianyu, a post along the wall offering breathtaking views in a less crowded atmosphere. Mutianyu was built in the mid-6th century and its rich history can be observed in its unique construction. This will be followed by an opportunity for photographs at the Birds Nest Stadium and Water Cube, which hosted the memorable 2008 Olympics and 2015 World Championships. In the evening, enjoy a sumptuous Peking Duck Dinner, a traditional delicacy and a culinary must.

Day 5 Bullet train to Xian (BL) 
In the morning visit the Summer Palace, which includes a grand collection of lakes, gardens, palaces and scenic views. Afterwards, aenjoy a relaxing boat ride on the beautiful Kunming Lake. You will then catch a bullet train to Xian (approx. 5 hours 30 minutes).

Day 6  Terracotta Warriors (BLD)
In the morning visit the Terracotta Warriors, a stunning collection of ten thousand life size statues of the Chinese army made over two thousand years ago, yet preserved almost perfectly. In the afternoon spend time at the Ancient City Wall in Xian, which can be enjoyed through a peaceful stroll or a bike ride. This evening you will try a dumpling dinner while enjoying the Tang Dynasty Show, a colourful performance of traditional music and dance.

Day 7  Fly to Shanghai (BLD)
Today, you will visit to the Shaanxi Museum which houses over a quarter of a million artefacts on display, including treasures from many periods of China’s history.  The next stop, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, will explore China’s unique architecture style, then visit the Muslim Quarter to see local life in the community. Finally, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Shanghai.

Day 8 Shanghai (BLD)
The first attraction will be the Yu Yuan Gardens followed by the Jade Buddha Temple. After viewing the Shanghai Museum, visit the waterfront attraction of the Bund to admire Shanghai as a modern metropolis. Later, on top of the Shanghai world financial centre, you can enjoy a breathtaking bird’s eye view of the whole city.

Day 9  Zhuijiajiao (BL)
Today will start with a visit to Zhujiajiao, an ancient water town with a history of over 1,700 years known as the Pearl Stream. After, you can expect to see the Ming and Qing Dynasty bridges, two ancient and historic buildings, and the Ma Family Garden before heading back to Shanghai. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 10  Fly to Hanoi (B)
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Hanoi where you will be met upon arrival and transferred to your hotel.  Remainder of the day at leisure.

Day 11  Hanoi (BL) 
Experience the rich culture of Hanoi. Spend time at the Temple of Literature, One Pillar Pagoda and the Presidential Palace. Visit the Vietnam History Museum and Hanoi Opera House. Take a stroll around the Old Quarter and end the day by watching a performance of a traditional Water Puppet Show.

Day 12  Hanoi to Halong Bay (BLD)
Journey through the rich farmlands, by shuttle bus and see the workers in the rice fields. Arrive in Halong City and board the traditional wooden junk boat for the overnight journey to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Halong Bay cruising past beautiful rock formations. Visit the Surprise Cave and Titov Island. Optional onboard activities include cookery class, massage, kayaking or swimming.

Day 13  Fly to Hue (B) 
We start the day with Tai Chi on the sundeck, then have breakfast on board.  Explore the Dark and Bright Cave. Enjoy brunch as the boat winds through the limestone rocks. Disembark at midday and join the shuttle bus back to Hanoi. Later transfer to the airport for your flight to Hue. Upon arrival you will be taken to the hotel.

Day 14  Hue  (BL)
Hue was once Vietnam’s Imperial capital and today you will experience its historical significance first hand. Cruise along the Perfume River, stopping off at the Thien Mu Pagoda. Continue to the Imperial Citadal and the Forbidden City. End the day with some retail therapy at a local market.

Day 15  Hue drive to Hoi An (BL)
A three-hour drive takes you through some stunning rural and coastal scenery, including the dramatic Hai Van Pass to Hoi An. On arrival, check into your hotel. Hoi An is easily explored on foot, and in the afternoon, embark on a short walking tour.

Day 16 Hoi An Ancient Town (B) 
Day at leisure to explore Hoi An and its surrounding area.  Optional tours include a cooking class or cycle ride to the local beach.

Day 17  Fly to Ho Chi Minh City  (BL) 
Morning free until early afternoon when you will be transferred for lunch. On the way to the airport stop at Marble  Mountain and the Cham Museum.  Fly to Ho Chi Minh City, on arrival you will be met and transferred to the hotel.

Day 18  Ho Chi Minh City (BL) 
Experience the very best of Ho Chi Minh on a half day city tour.  Soak up the history of Dong Khoi Street on a walking tour, visit the Reunification Palace and War Remnants Museum, and the city’s biggest wholesale market in China Town. This afternoon we will take you to the Cu Chi Tunnels on the city’s outskirts.

Day 19  Mekong Delta (BL) 
A morning transfer through the beautiful countryside of Ben Tre province. On arrival at Hung Vuong Pier board a boat to sail along the Ben Tre River – one of the tributaries of the Mekong – through scenic mangroves leading into the heart of the Mekong Delta. Stop at a traditional brickworks to see how bricks are made by hand. Continue to My Long village to see rice paper making and to enjoy some rice cake. Continuing along the canals, visit a coconut workshop and stop at a bee garden. Enjoy some local fruits with a cup of honey tea and listen to some local music. Enjoy lunch at a riverside restaurant. Return to Saigon in the afternoon.

Day 20  Ho Chi Minh City to UK (B) 
Transfer to the airport for your flight to the UK.

Hanoi: The Ann Hanoi 4★

Located in Hanoi with Hanoi’s Old Quarter only 750 yards away from the hotel.  Offering an outdoor pool, a restaurant and a bar.  The hotel is 0.9 miles from Dong Xuan Market and 900 yards from Hoan Kiem Lake.
