2017 – 18

Day 1 London Heathrow to Beijing
You will take a scheduled flight from London Heathrow to Beijing.

Day 2 Arrive Beijing (D)
Upon arrival, you will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel for a 3 night stay. In the afternoon you will have time to relax or take a walk in the surrounding area. Your guide will be pleased to advise on what you can do at your leisure. In the early evening your guide will escort you for dinner where you will meet your fellow group members.

Day 3 Beijing city tour (BLD)
In the morning you will visit the Temple of Heaven – this was the place where the Ming and Qing emperors worshipped the god of heaven and prayed for good harvest for the year, where you can observe the tradition of practicing Tai Chi in the courtyard. This will be followed by a stroll through Tiananmen Square, one of the largest city squares in the world. Finally, a visit to the Forbidden City which served as the grand imperial palace for centuries.

Day 4 The Great Wall (BLD)
Today will begin with a visit to the Great Wall at Mutianyu, a post along the wall which offers all round stunning views and a less crowded atmosphere. Mutianyu was built in the mid-6th century and its rich history can be observed in its unique construction. In the evening there will be a sumptuous Peking Duck Dinner, a traditional delicacy in Beijing.

Day 5 Beijing city tour and to Xian (BLD)
In the morning visit to the Summer Palace, which includes a grand collection of lakes, gardens and palaces where you can expect lovely views and walks. Afterwards, you will have a chance to enjoy a relaxing boat ride on the beautiful Kunming Lake. This will be followed by a stop at the Birds Nest Stadium and Water Cube, which hosted the 2008 Olympics. Following an opportunity for photographs, the final stop of the day will be at the Hutongs. Here, you can expect a more personal insight into the everyday life of traditional Beijing citizens. Finally, you will catch a flight to Xian.

Day 6 Terracotta Warriors (BLD)
Today your guide will take you to visit the Terracotta Warriors, a stunning collection of ten thousand life size statues of the Chinese army made over two thousand years ago, yet preserved almost perfectly. This will be followed by a visit to the ancient city wall in Xian in the afternoon, which can be enjoyed through a peaceful stroll or a bike ride. It is the most complete city wall that has survived in China, it is one of the largest military defensive systems in the world. This evening you will try a dumpling dinner while enjoying the Tang Dynasty Show, a colourful performance of traditional music and dance.

Day 7 Xian city tour and to Guilin (BLD)
Today, you will visit to the Shaanxi Museum which houses over a quarter of a million artefacts on display, including treasures from many periods of China’s history. The next stop, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, will explore China’s unique architecture style. Visit the Muslim Quarter to see local life in the community. Finally, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Guilin.

Day 8 Li River cruise (BLD)
Morning transfer to Zhujiang quay for a four hour boat cruise on the breathtaking Li River towards Yangshuo. On the Li River, there are opportunities to enjoy the tranquil rural scenes of buffalo farming the rice terraces and the towering karst mountain peaks. Arrival will be at around 14:00 in Yangshuo. This evening optional spectacular ‘Impressions of Liu Sanjie’ show, staged on the river.

Day 9 Yangshuo, Guilin (BD)
This morning is free at leisure. Explore this beautiful area independently, or perhaps join an optional cookery class or take a walk or cycle ride to explore the countryside. Return to Guilin. Visit the Reed Flute Caves, a
remarkable collection of colourfully illuminated stalactites and stalagmites. In the evening, you will enjoy the cormorant fishing show.

Day 10 Chengdu and Leshan Buddha (BLD)
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Chengdu. Enjoy a full day excursion to the magnificent Leshan Buddha a 233-foot tall stone statue, built during the Tang Dynasty. The Buddha is carved out of a cliff face that lies at the confluence of the Minjiang, Dadu and Qingyi rivers near the city of Leshan, and it is the largest stone Buddha in the world.
You will also visit the ancient town of Huanglongxi.

Day 11 Giant Pandas and city tour (BLD)
After breakfast, the first stop will be at the Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Centre, just 6 miles from downtown
Chengdu. Here naturalistic habitats have been created to provide the best possible environment for rearing and breeding
pandas. In the afternoon, you will have a city tour to visit Jinli Street and Kuanzhai Lane, to see local people’s life.

Day 12 Chengdu to London Heathrow (B)
Transfer to the airport for your flight back to London Heathrow.

This group tour will typically use 4 Star Hotels or properties of a similar standard if those listed are not available. All rooms are equipped with a double or twin beds, private bathroom facilities, air-conditioning, heating, TV’s, telephones and WiFi as standard.

Only a 10 minutes walk from the city center and night market. The rooms have a European feel and the Skylight Lobby Bar is the perfect spot to relax. Facilities include an outdoor swimming pool.

Yangshuo: Green Lotus Hotel 4★

Located within walking distance of WestStreet, the hotel also enjoys scenic views. There are comfortable guestrooms, an outdoor swimming pool, fitness centre as well as Western and Chinese dining options.

Chengdu: Yinhe Dynasty Hotel 4★

Located in the heart of Chengdu, the hotel is just a 5-minute walk from Tianfu Square.  All guestrooms have modern comforts including seating area, minibar, cable TV and en-suite bathroom with toiletries.  There is a gym and outdoor swimming pool and the Wangchao Restaurant serves a selection of Szechuan and Cantonese dishes.
