Enjoy a 5 star cruise along the Yangtze  River, Asia’s longest and arguably most scenic river. Spend time with  China’s most famous and adorable animal, The Giant Panda, in Chengdu.  In addition to this, you will visit the classic sights Beijing, Xian and Shanghai have to offer.

Day 1  London Heathrow to Beijing

You will take a scheduled flight from London Heathrow to Beijing. Alternatively, we caGC20-mapn arrange departures from your local airport.

Day 2  Arrive Beijing ( D)

Upon arrival, you will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel for a 3 night stay. In the afternoon you will have time to relax or take a walk in the surrounding area. Your guide will be pleased to advise on what you can do at your leisure. In the early evening your guide will escort you for dinner where you will meet your fellow group members.

Day 3  Beijing city tour (BLD)

This morning you will visit the Temple of Heaven where Ming and Qing emperors worshipped and prayed for good harvest for the year, you can also observe the tradition of practicing Tai Chi in the courtyard. This will be followed by a stroll through Tiananmen Square, and a visit to the Forbidden City, a grand imperial palace for centuries.

Day 4  The Great Wall (BLD)

They day will begin with a visit to the Great Wall at Mutianyu, a post along the wall which offers all round stunning views. Built mid 6th century, its rich history can be observed in its unique construction. In the evening there will be a sumptuous Peking Duck Dinner, a traditional delicacy in Beijing.

Day 5  Beijing city tour and to Xian (BLD)

After breakfast, there will be a visit to the Summer Palace, full of peaceful lakes and gardens. Afterwards, you will enjoy a relaxing boat ride on the beautiful Kunming Lake, followed by a stop at the Birds Nest Stadium. The final stop of the day will be at the Hutongs, before catching a flight to Xian.

Day 6  Terracotta Warriors (BLD)

Today your guide will take you to visit the Terracotta Warriors, a stunning collection of ten thousand life size statues of the Chinese army made over two thousand years ago, yet preserved almost perfectly. This will be followed by a visit to the ancient city wall in Xian in the afternoon, which can be enjoyed through a peaceful stroll or a bike ride. It is the most complete city wall that has survived in China, it is one of the largest military defensive systems in the world. This evening you will try a dumpling dinner while enjoying the Tang Dynasty Show, a colourful performance of traditional music and dance.

Day 7  Xian city tour and to Guilin (BLD)

Today, you will visit to the Shaanxi museum which houses over a quarter of a million artefacts on display, including treasures from many periods of China’s history. The next stop, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, will explore China’s unique architecture style. Visit the Muslim Quarter to see local life in the community. Finally, transfer to the airport for your flight to Guilin.

Day 8  Li River cruise  and Cormorant Fishing Show (BLD)

Following breakfast, you will be transferred to Zhujiang quay for a four hour boat cruise on the breathtaking Li River towards Yangshuo. On the Li River, there are opportunities to enjoy the tranquil rural scenes of buffalo farming the rice terraces and the towering karst mountain peaks. In the evening, you will see the fascinating cormorant fishing show.

Day 9 Yangshuo and Yulong River (BD)
Today is free at leisure. Explore this beautiful area independently, or perhaps join an optional cookery class this morning. In the afternoon, there is an optional walk or cycle ride to explore the countryside. This evening optional spectacular ‘Impressions of Liu Sanjie’ show, staged on the river.

Day 10  Reed Flute Caves and to Chengdu (BLD)

After breakfast, you’ll visit the Reed Flute Caves, a remarkable collection of colourfully illuminated stalactites and stalagmites. Afterwards you will visit Fubo Hill and Elephant Trunk Hill, with panoramic countryside views. Later, you will fly to Chengdu.

Day 11 Leshan Buddha (BLD)
A full day excursion to the magnificent Leshan Buddha at 233-ft tall. Built during the TangDynasty, the Buddha is carved out of a cliff face that lies at the confluence of the Minjiang, Dadu and Qingyi rivers. You will also visit the ancient town of Huanglongxi.

Day 12  Giant Pandas and Cruise (BLD)

After breakfast, the first stop will be at the Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Centre, Here naturalistic habitats have been created for the best possible environments for rearing and breeding pandas. Afterwards take 2 hours bullet train to Chongqing to board your cruise.

Days 13 – 14  Yangtze River Cruise (BLD)

On the first day of the cruise, you can relax while the ship meanders through the Yangtze, allowing you to enjoy its scenic views. Today’s excursion will be Shibaozhai, with its impressive wooden pagoda, appropriately named “The Pearl of the Yangtze”. The final excursion of the last day will be an enjoyable journey on a small motorboat through the tranquil Goddess Stream while marvelling at the soaring limestone cliffs rising sheer from the water.

Day 15  To Hangzhou (BLD)

You have nearly arrived at the end of your cruise. Before arriving at Yichang you will visit The Three Gorges Dam, the world’s largest power station site. Disembark at Yichang at noon and our guide will escort you to the airport for a flight to Hangzhou.

Day 16 West Lake (BL)
Today includes a visit to one of China’s most famed natural scenic spots to enjoy the West Lake’s numerous gardens, forests, nature walks, temples and pagodas. You can also enjoy a cruise on the West Lake. After lunch we will visit the Buddhist Monastery of Ling Yin Temple. Visit a Tea Plantation and sample some traditional brews in a local Tea House. Explore the local markets around Qing He Fong Street.

Day 17 Train to Shanghai (B)

Day 18  Shanghai city tour (BLD)

The first attraction of the day will be the Yu Yuan Gardens followed by the Jade Buddha Temple. The centuries old Yu Yuan Gardens is home to beautiful pavilions, corridors, streams, courtyards and flowers, perfect for the horticulturist. At the Jade Buddha Temple, one can expect impressive temples, both historical and modern, sporting large, intricate sculptures of Buddha. After viewing the Shanghai museum, there will be an opportunity to visit the waterfront attraction of the Bund to admire Shanghai as a modern metropolis. Later, on top of the Shanghai world financial centre, you can enjoy a breathtaking bird’s eye view of the whole city.

Day 19  Suzhou day trip (BLD)

Today will feature an excursion to the scenic city of Suzhou, known as the ‘Venice of the East’. Its attractive gardens are renowned for their remarkable history and skilled horticulturalists, an example being the Master of the Nets Garden. After, enjoy a cruise on the striking Grand Canal, a local silk mill still in operation, but uses only traditional methods for silk production. Finally, there will be a chance to visit the Panmen Gate before returning to Shanghai.

Day 20  Fly back to London (B)

Transfer to the airport for your flight back to London Heathrow.

Located close to Yangshuo West Street and Impression Liu Sanjie. Every room at this hotel is air conditioned and comes with a flat-screen TV. Certain rooms include views of the mountains or river. Rooms are equipped with a private bathroom.

Chengdu: Yinhe Dynasty Hotel 4★

Located in the heart of Chengdu, the hotel is just a 5-minute walk from Tianfu Square. All guestrooms have modern comforts including seating area, minibar, cable TV and en-suite bathroom with toiletries.
