China can boast many scenic highlights and areas of outstanding natural beauty.  On this tour we explore three of China’s natural wonders; the stunning scenery, charming villages, sweeping forests and sparkling lakes of Sichuan province, combined with a cruise through the majestic Yangtze Gorges and Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, home to stunning karst pillars of sandstone, covered with sub-tropical rainforest.

2017 – 18

Day 1 London Heathrow to Chengdunatural wonders
You will take a scheduled flight from London Heathrow to Chengdu.

Day 2 Arrive Chengdu (D)
Upon arrival, you will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel for a 2 night stay. You will have a chance to relax before your guide will escort you for dinner where you will meet and greet your fellow group members.

Day 3 Chengdu City tour (BLD)
After breakfast depart for the Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding and Research Centre. Arrive at the base after a 30 minute drive. Here naturalistic habitats have been created to provide the best possible environment for rearing and breeding pandas. After lunch at the panda base, continue to explore the city of Chengdu by visiting the People’s Park, an interesting area popular for its tea houses where the locals like to congregate. Continue to Wide and Narrow Alley, two rows of traditional courtyard buildings that have been turned into restaurants, shops and places to stay.

Day 4 Chengdu to Mt. Emei (BLD)
Depart the hotel for Leshan city, an interesting drive of around 2 hours. See the magnificent Giant Buddha, a 233-foot tall stone statue, built during the Tang Dynasty. The Buddha is carved out of the cliff face that lies at the confluence of the Minjiang, Dadu and Qingyi rivers. Transfer to the foot of Mt. Emei. Visit Fuhu Monastery at the foot of the mountain, a well-preserved temple sunken into the forest.

Day 5 Mt.Emei to Chengdu (BLD)
After breakfast depart the hotel for your ascent of Mount Emei. The combination of bus and cable car services will take you to the summit from where you can admire the stunning panoramas as well as the Golden Temple. Descend to the foot of the mountain and transfer back to Chengdu.

Day 6 Fly to Jiuzhaigou (BLD)
Transfer to the airport and take a short flight to Jiuzhaigou. Continue to Huanglong scenic area, famous for its virgin forests, sweeping valleys, colourful lakes and intriguing calcite pools cascading down the riverbed. After visiting Huanglong, transfer to your hotel near Jiuzhaigou National Park, a scenic drive of around 3 hours.

Day 7 Jiuzhaigou (BLD)
Enjoy a full day visit at Jiuzhaigou National Park which became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992. Admire the stunning valley and sparkling bright blue lakes where kingfishers and mandarin ducks can often be seen.

Day 8 Jiuzhaigou fly to Chongqing and board the cruise (BLD)
Depart for Jiuzhaigou airport and fly to Chongqing. Board your cruise vessel after dinner to commence your fascinating cruise along the Yangtze.

Days 9-10 Yangtze River Cruise (BLD)
On the first day of the cruise, you can relax while the ship meanders throughout the Yangtze, allowing you to enjoy its scenic views. Today’s excursion will be Shibaozhai, with its impressive wooden pagoda, appropriately named “The Pearl of the Yangtze”. The final excursion of the last day will be an enjoyable journey on a small motorboat through the tranquil Goddess Stream while marvelling at the soaring limestone cliffs rising sheer from the water.

Day 11 Train to Zhangjiajie (BL)
Before arriving at Yichang you will visit The Three Gorges Dam, the world’s largest power station site. Disembark and our guide will escort you to the train station for the train to Zhangjiajie.

Day 12 Zhangjiajie (BLD)
In the morning we will take the cable car to enjoy the views and relax at Mt. Tianzishan. In the afternoon continue to Bailong, the sightseeing elevator is the highest and fastest in the world and provides a spectacular view of the Sandstone Peak Forest.

Day 13 Zhangjaijie (BLD)
Today you will visit the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. In the afternoon we will go to Jinbian Brook, at 5700 metres long, it is famous for Jinbian rock. You will have the best view of Wulingyuan along the brook. Wear comfortable walking shoes.

Day 14 Zhangjaijie fly to Shanghai (BL)
Visit Tianmen Cave and enjoy a daring sky walk on a glass walkway offering fantastic views across the panorama. Transfer to the airport for your flight to Shanghai.

Day 15 Shanghai City Tour (BLD)
The first attraction of the day will be the Yu Yuan Gardens followed by the Jade Buddha Temple. The centuries old Yu Yuan Gardens is home to beautiful pavilions, corridors, streams, courtyards and flowers, perfect for the horticulturist. At the Jade Buddha Temple, one can expect impressive temples, both historical and modern, sporting large, intricate sculptures of Buddha. After viewing the Shanghai Museum, there will be an opportunity to visit the waterfront attraction of the Bund to admire Shanghai as a modern metropolis. Later, on top of the Shanghai world financial centre, you can enjoy a breathtaking bird’s eye view of the whole city.

Day 16 Fly to London Heathrow (B)
Transfer to the airport for your flight back to London Heathrow.
