This itinerary of China explores all of the country’s main sights and highlights, whilst staying in the comfort of luxury 5* accommodation. Experience China at its best, starting in Beijing and visiting iconic sights such as the Great Wall of China and the Forbidden City. Travel to Xian by high speed bullet train for the impressive Terracotta Warriors. In Guilin, enjoy a cruise on the scenic Li River and explore Yangshuo’s stunning limestone karst scenery, and relax on a luxurious cruise along the longest river in Asia, the Yangtze, before admiring the magnificence of the Three Gorges Dam. The tour ends in Shanghai where ancient and modern China meet, making for a fitting finale to your tour.
Day 1 UK to Beijing
Fly from Heathrow or your regional airport to Beijing.
Day 2 Arrive Beijing
Upon arrival, you will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel for a three night stay. Remainder of the day is at leisure.
Day 3 Beijing City Tour (B)
Visit the Temple of Heaven, where the Ming and Qing emperors worshipped the god of heaven and prayed for good harvests for the year. This will be followed by a stroll through Tiananmen Square, the largest square in the world, and a visit to the Forbidden City which served as the grand imperial palace for centuries.
Day 4 Great Wall (B)
Today visit the Great Wall at Mutianyu, one of the best preserved parts of the Great Wall and an area with fewer tourists, offering stunning views. Continue to the Summer Palace, which includes a grand collection of lakes, gardens, palaces and scenic vistas. Afterwards, enjoy a relaxing boat ride on the beautiful Kunming Lake.
Day 5 Bullet train to Xian (B)
There will be an opportunity for photographs at the Birds Nest Stadium and Water Cube, venues for the memorable 2008 Olympics and 2015 World Championships. Continue to the Hutongs for a personal insight into the everyday life of traditional Beijing citizens, before taking a first class bullet train to Xian.
Day 6 Terracotta Warriors (B)
The Terracotta Warriors is today’s first stop, an amazing collection of 10,000 life size statues of the Chinese army made over 2,000 years ago. This will be followed by a visit to Xian’s ancient city wall, the most complete city wall surviving in China, and one of the largest military defensive systems in the world.
Day 7 Fly to Guilin (B)
The Shaanxi Museum which has over a quarter of a million artefacts on display, including treasures from many periods of China’s history, will be followed by the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, with the day ending on a visit to the Muslim Quarter to see local life in the community. You will then be transferred to the airport for your flight to Guilin.
Day 8 Li River Cruise (BL)
Following breakfast, enjoy a four hour boat cruise on the breathtaking Li River towards Yangshuo. Arrival in Yangshuo will be at around 14:00. This evening there is an optional spectacular ‘Impressions of Liu Sanjie’ show staged on the Li River.
Day 9 Yangshuo, Guilin (B)
Morning free for leisure and relaxation. Take the opportunity to explore this beautiful area independently, or perhaps join an optional cookery class. Later in the afternoon return to Guilin and visit the Reed Flute Caves and in the evening you will see the fascinating Cormorant Fishing Show.
Day 10 Fly to Chongqing (B)
Today you will fly to Chongqing. Transfer to the quay to board your luxury, 5* ship for the start of your cruise along the majestic Yangtze River.
Day 11-12 Yangtze River Cruise (BLD)
Relax while the ship meanders along the Yangtze, allowing you to enjoy the scenic views. Take an excursion to Shibaozhai, with its impressive wooden pagoda, appropriately named “The Pearl of the Yangtze”, and enjoy a journey on a small motorboat through the tranquil Shennong Stream.
Day 13 Fly to Shanghai (B)
You will visit The Three Gorges Dam, the world’s largest power station and sail through the Xiling Gorge. Disembark at Yichang and transfer to the airport for a flight to Shanghai.
Day 14 Shanghai City Tour (B)
The first attraction of the day will be the Yu Yuan Gardens, home to beautiful pavilions, streams and courtyards, followed by the Jade Buddha Temple, with its large, intricate sculptures of Buddha. After the Shanghai Museum, you will visit the waterfront attraction of the Bund. Later, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the whole city from the top of the Shanghai world financial centre.
Day 15 Shanghai to UK (B)
Transfer to the airport for your flight back to the UK.
