China has many scenic locations and areas of outstanding natural beauty.  On this tour you explore three of China’s natural wonders; the stunning scenery, charming villages, sweeping forests and sparkling lakes of Sichuan province, a cruise through the majestic Yangtze Gorges and on to Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, home to dramatic karst pillars of sandstone, covered with sub-tropical rainforest.  In Sichuan, spend time with the iconic animals at the Giant Panda Breeding and Research Centre and sample spicy Sichuan cuisine.  Ascend Mount Emei by cable car and at its peak, admire the opulent Golden Temple.  Enjoy a relaxing cruise along the mighty Yangtze River, before continuing to the striking mountains and rock formations of Zhangjiajie National Park.  Your tour ends in the cosmopolitan Shanghai to enjoy all that this bustling city has to offer.

2018 – 19

Day 1 UK to Chengdu
Catch your scheduled flight from London Heathrow to Chengdu.

Day 2 Arrive Chengdu
Upon arrival, you will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel for a two night stay.

Day 3 Chengdu City Tour (BLD)
After breakfast set off for the Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding and Research Centre, which will take about a 30 minutes. Here naturalistic habitats have been created to provide the best possible environment for rearing and breeding pandas. After lunch at the panda base, explore the city of Chengdu, visiting the People’s Park, an interesting area popular for its tea houses where the locals like to congregate, and the Wide and Narrow Alley, two rows of traditional courtyard buildings that have been turned into restaurants, shops and places to stay.

Day 4 Chengdu to Mt. Emei (BLD)
Depart the hotel for Leshan, an interesting drive of around 2 hours. See the magnificent Giant Buddha, a 233-foot tall stone statue, built during the Tang Dynasty.  The Buddha is carved from the cliffs that lie at the confluence of the Minjiang, Dadu and Qingyi rivers. Continue to the foot of Mt. Emei, and visit the Fuhu Monastery, a well-preserved temple hidden deep in the forest.

Day 5 Mt.Emei to Chengdu (BLD)
After breakfast, start your ascent of Mount Emei. A combination of bus and cable car will take you to the summit from where you can admire the glorious panoramas and the Golden Temple. Descend to the foot of the mountain and transfer back to Chengdu.

Day 6 Fly to Guilin (B)
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before your transfer to the airport and flight to Guilin.  On arrival transfer to your hotel and check-in.

Day 7 Li River Cruise(BL)
Today, relax on a Li River Cruise to Yangshuo, where you will have time to visit the town before returning to Guilin.

Day 8 Fly to Chongqing and board the cruise (B)
Depart for Guilin Airport for your flight to Chongqing. On arrival, transfer to the dock, board your vessel and start your memorable cruise along the Yangtze.

Days 9-10 Yangtze River Cruise (BLD)
Relax and admire the views as the ship meanders along the Yangtze. There will be an excursion to Shibaozhai, with its impressive wooden pagoda, appropriately named “The Pearl of the Yangtze”, and on the last day will be an enthralling trip on a small motorboat through the tranquil Goddess Stream, marvelling at the soaring limestone cliffs rising sheer from the water.

Day 11 Train to Zhangjiajie (BL)
Before arriving at Yichang, visit The Three Gorges Dam, the world’s largest power station, transfer to a smaller specially-designed sightseeing vessel and travel through the ship elevator. Continue to Yichang by coach, from where our guide will escort you to the train station for your train to Zhangjiajie.

Day 12 Zhangjiajie (BLD)
After breakfast, a 30 minute drive will take you to the Wulinyuan Scenic Area. Your adventure starts at the Bailong Elevator, the tallest outdoor lift in the world, reaching a height of 326 metres, taking just 1.58 seconds to transport passenegers from the bottom, to Yuanjiajie at the top, with breathtaking views on the way. Yuanjiajie Nature Reserve is a large, tree-clad, block-and-obelisk landscape with a hollowed-out valley floor, and a pristine mountain stream running through it, at its centre. In James Cameron’s 2009 movie Avatar, its mist-shrouded peaks were the inspiration for Hallelujah Mountain in the fairytale world of Pandora. In the afternoon, ascend Tianzi Mountain by cable car, and marvel at the spectacular panoramas from its forested summit of bizarre rock formations and monumental cliffs decorated by misty clouds.

Day 13 Zhangjiajie (BLD)
After breakfast, enjoy a walk to Golden Whip Stream, flanked by ridges and peaks, where the crystal clear water lets you see the fish dancing in the water.  In the afternoon , visit Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon, ideal for hiking, boating, or negotiating the world’s highest and longest glass bridge, which is about 5-6 km long and should take about 2.5 hours.

Day 14 Zhangjiajie fly to Shanghai (BL)
Today take the world’s longest cable car to Tianmen Mountain, which is regarded as the symbol and soul of Zhangjiajie. The highest peak is around 1518.6 metres above sea level, and the mountain is named after the natural huge cave half way up, just like a gate to heaven, hence the name Heavenly Gate Mountain – Tianmen Mountain.  Transfer to the airport for your flight to Shanghai.

Day 15 Shanghai City Tour (BLD)
The first attraction of the day will be the Yu Yuan Gardens, followed by the Jade Buddha Temple. The centuries old Yu Yuan Gardens is home to beautiful pavilions, walkways, streams and courtyards, ideal for the horticulturist. At the Jade Buddha Temple, the impressive temples, both historic and modern, house large, intricate sculptures of Buddha. After exploring the Shanghai Museum, discover the waterfront attraction of the Bund and admire Shanghai as a modern metropolis. Later, from the top of the Shanghai world financial centre, enjoy an inspiring bird’s eye view of the city.

Day 16 Fly to UK (B)
Transfer to the airport for your flight back to London Heathrow.
