Top Attractions To See In Zhangjiajie

Zhangjiajie National park is the beloved park in Hunan for its splendid natural beauty. The unique sandstone pillars and the landscape have inspired the graphic design in Hollywood film Avatar. The park is one of the fascinating landscapes in the world with the area stretching over more than 3600 square kilometres. With more than 3,100 gigantic quartzite sandstone pillars reaching the clouds (some over 2,600 feet tall) to the pastoral streams flowing beneath to the verdant forests throughout and is home to many rare species of trees and rare species of birds and animals, the Zhangjiajie Geopark was listed as a UNESCO Global Geopark.

The must see attractions in Zhangjiajie is the Wulingyuan Scenic Area. The main sightseeing area would be the Tianzi Mountain, the Suoxi Vale (“Ten-mile Gallery”) and the Zhangjiajie Forest Park. There are more than 40 stones caves, 2 naturally-built stone bridge, ravines, waterfalls, streams and pools in this scenic area.


Scenic Cable Car in ZhangjiajieThe Tianzi Mountain is famous for the sea of clouds, the radiance of the Moonlight, Rays of Sunshine and the snow in winter. While, The Suoxi Vale (“Ten-mile gallery”) is located at the bottom of the Tianzi Mountain with looks like an outdoor stone sculpture showroom and exhibition of the beautiful gorges. Furthermore,in the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, the main attractions are Huangshizhai (Yellow Stones Village), Gold Whip Stream ( Jinbian Stream) and the famous Jinbian rock, Yuanjiajie and Yangjiajie.


Gold Whip/Jinbian StreamThe Yellow Stones Village is a place where there are more than 10 scene viewing platforms to enjoy the majestic sandstone peak forest. Also, the Gold whip steam area is an amazing area where tourist can enjoy the resting on the rocks by the stream while walking through the dense forest and some unique-shaped peaks and most importantly take some stunning pictures to share with your family and friends back home.



Stunning Zhangjiajie Sandstone PillersIn particular, the Yuanjiajie area has the steepest naturally formed sandstone mountains where you can relax in the Back garden, and watch the famous glass bridge under the sun. In the park, a spectacular Bailong Elevator is an unforgettable experience as it is the world’s tallest lift with the 326m height. You can get to the top in less than 2 minutes and enjoys the view of the sandstone pillars forest scene in Yuanjiajie.




Heaven's GateIn addition, Tianmen Mountain is another must see attraction in the park with 4980 feet as the highest peak in Zhangjiajie. The mountain is famous for the unique landscape with the Tianmen Cave. You can visit the Tianmen Mountain by the cable car and visit the Tianmen Cave (Heaven’s Gate) to have the thrilling experience for the 100m glass walkway around the side of the sheer cliff of Tianmen Mountain. Tianmen cave (Heaven’s gate) is a large water eroded hole with 30 meters wide between two peaks, like a huge doorway in the cliff face. Usually, tourist will either take the cable car or take the shuttle bus to go pass the 99 bends and reach the bottom of the cave. After that, there are 999 steps to reach to cave and it is called “the Stairway to Heaven”. It takes you to exercise with the scene of the fabulous natural miracle in Zhangjiajie, it is definitely worth it!

A note to yourself:
When you visit the national park, make sure you bring hiking shoes as many most spectacular and rewarding scenic sections in Zhangjiajie involve with paths and trials. In fact, there are always shuttle buses and cable cars on site for tourist to visit different scenic area and attractions so do not worry when your legs get jelly! It is also suggested to bring all necessary medications and speak to your tour guides for specific arrangement for your medical condition. Besides, there are many local minorities living in the area, so make sure you respect the local customs in the area.
