China has one of the biggest and busiest rail networks in the world, with trains linking almost every town and city and has built some of the fastest trains in the world. The Shanghai Maglev (magnetic levitation technology) is the fastest commercial, high-speed electric train in the world with a maximum operational speed of 431km/h and average speed of 267kmph. The Maglev started in April 2004 and was designed to connect Shanghai Pudong International Airport and the outskirts of central Pudong, where passengers can interchange to other forms of transport to continue their journey.
The Harmony CRH 380A/B/C/D with a maximum speed of 380kmph is currently the second fastest operating train in the world, and is also operating in China. The CRH 380A started in October 2010, operates from Beijing to Shanghai and provides a daily service along the Wuhan to Guangzhou route.
China has now topped the top two laces in the world’s high-speed train competition! There has been a rapid development of the rail network in China, enabling travellers to take a bullet train starting from Beijing, to Xian to visit the Terracotta Warriors and take an onward train or flight to Chengdu to meet the Giant Pandas. You can then explore different cities and find new destinations with the China rail network. Shanghai, usually your final destination on your trip to China, has been a very important place for the development of the country’s railway system. It would be fascinating to travel China with its widespread rail network and have the bullet train experience with one of the finest fast trains in the world.
